Michael, founder of askprice
Michael founded askprice in 2026 to answer one question he kept asking as a shopper: is this price actually a discount? askprice records prices every day at Macy's, Bloomingdale's, JCPenney, Kohl's, Nordstrom and Nordstrom Rack, and shows the history for each item free of charge and without an account.
What Michael writes about
- Store policies: price adjustment and price match rules at the six department stores, verified against each store's official policy page on the date shown under each guide, with askprice data on how often prices keep falling after a markdown.
- Black Friday and seasonal pricing: what tracked prices show about "sale" labels, reference prices and the week of Black Friday, published as data reports with the sample size behind every number.
- Price history explained: what "Orig.", "Reg.", "Comparable Value" and "Compare at" mean in practice, and when a markdown is likely to be followed by another.
How the guides are made
Every figure in a guide comes from askprice's own price records and is published with the number of items or markdowns behind it. Policy facts are taken from the store's official pages and re-checked on the date shown; when a rule cannot be confirmed, the guide says so instead of guessing. The method, definitions and limits are described on the methodology page. askprice has no affiliate agreements with the stores it tracks.
